Staff Report
Wednesday, March 8, 2006

Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed will sponsor a presentation about the effort to rid Marin County waterways of the non-native plant Spartina on March 13.

Erik Grijalva, operations manager of the Coastal Conservancy's three-year project, will lead the discussion.

Crews from the Marin Conservation Corps removed thousands of plants by hand this winter and treated limited areas with low-level herbicide.

According to the watershed group, there are 15.6 acres of Spartina in 613 acres of marshland in Marin.

The Corte Madera Creek area has 470 acres of marsh and 12 acres of Spartina.

The presentation runs from 7-9 p.m. in Room 27 at Bacich Elementary School in Kentfield.
