Hamilton headache

- Letter to Editor (Saturday Readers' Forum)
Saturday, July 1, 2006

Thank you to the IJ for reporting on an issue that has made some Hamilton residents miserable for two years.

Hamilton residents are not "overstating the problem," as suggested by the Army.

Most of the heavy construction work - the kind that requires large vehicles to travel on Todd Road - will not be completed by 2007.

Even if the Hamilton Wetlands Restoration project has fewer trucks on Todd Road starting in 2008, two other large projects have Todd Road as their only route in and out for heavy construction.

The Army project will clean up the 190-acre North Antenna Field. The extent of the contamination from the shooting range and burn pits is still being determined.

By most accounts, thousands of truck loads of contaminated soil will be transported out via Todd Road over the next few years.

Todd Road also is the designated truck route for the Bel Marin Keys Unit V restoration project.

The environmental impact report states that construction trucks would access the site through Hamilton because Bel Marin Keys residents objected to having truck traffic on their roads.
