Volunteers restore Rodeo Creek, educate publicHeavy rains were all that would have stopped the planned planting project from Saturday to Monday at Rodeo Creek.

But the weather cooperated and volunteers turned out to beautify and restore the creek area with trees and native plants.

Workers wielding picks and shovels included members of the Friends of Rodeo, Refugio & Carquinez Watersheds, a collaboration between the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center and the Muir Heritage Land Trust.

The group's aim is to rid creeks of non-native vegetation and trash, replace them with native plants and educate the public about healthy watersheds.

The Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center works on environmental restoration and education projects in the Carquinez Strait region. It has been in existence since 1995.
