Wednesday, October 12, 2005 - The National Park Service is initiating the planning process to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act for the trail and habitat restoration plan at Mori Point. The public is invited to provide comments on the scope, the preferred alternative and issues to be addressed in the EA.
Need for the Plan: Mori Point is a 100-acre parcel of the GGNRA on the coast of Pacifica that provide habitat for the San Francisco garter snake, a federally listed endangered species, which feeds on the California red-legged frog, a federally threatened species. In addition, Mori Point is a popular venue for recreation. Long-term protection and enjoyment of the property and its critical habitat requires the creation of an appropriate trail plan.
Proposed Plan: The National Park Service, with input from other public agencies and the community, has prepared a Mori Point Trail and Restoration Plan for public review.
The scoping period for the EA is Oct. 7 through Nov. 7. The public is encouraged to submit comments in writing to Superintendent, Gold en Gate National Park Area, Fort Mason, Building 201, San Francisco, CA 94123, Attention: Mori Point, or through the website address, parkplanning.nps.gov/goga, click on "Mori Point Trail and Restoration Plan and follow instructions.
Informational meetings will be held on Oct. 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Pacifica Community Center and on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mori Point Site Walk at the Mori Point Gate. For more information, contact Jennifer Greene at 415-561-3086 or jgreene@parksconservancy.org.
