Sunday, November 20, 2005 Congress has allocated $100,000 to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers toward preservation of the Corte Madera Creek watershed. The money will help pay for an ongoing, community-based watershed planning effort.
"A watershed-wide planning approach provides an opportunity to look at the big picture," Supervisor Hal Brown said.
The Board of Supervisors, acting as the Flood Control and Water Conservation District, initially requested a watershed-wide study in 2002 to identify alternative approaches to flood control, watershed management and restoration.
The request was made in cooperation with local municipalities, Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed, and other organizations in the community.
"This money will fund a study of flood damage reduction within the larger framework of fisheries and watershed restoration," said Farhad Mansourian, the county's dircetor of public works. http://www.marinij.com/fastsearchresults/ci_3236873 |
